Last month, PC World released its Top 100 technology products of 2010. This is a good reference list to see where innovation is occuring, areas for upcoming marketplace disruption, see which companies have the best outlooks, and to wet the appetite for any technology enthusiasts for their next set of gadget purchases.
The top 100 by product category (total and % of Top 100) breaks down as shown below between Tablets, PC and E-Readers, HDTV and Home Theatres, Mobile Phones and Apps, Digital Cameras and Printers, Productivity Software, Storage and Useful Gadgets, and Web Services and Games.
Mobile Apps and Tablets, PCs, and E-Readers are the Top 2 Categories. Of course, in those categories, you’ll see Apple and Google at the Top of the list. I’d say 2010 was the year of Google and Apple, and foreshadows a continued battle between these two giants in the future.
Here’s the full list of the Top 100 with links back to the PC World description of each product. Personally, out of this list, I’m most interested in trying out further Android phones, Apple’s iPad, Apple TV, Canon Pixma MG8120, Slingplayer Mobile, MOG, Flipboard, Microsoft ARC Touch Mouse, TomTom XXL 550-T-M

Amazing how I consider myself moderately tech savvy…yet I’ve not even HEARD of some of these products.
Think I just lost my tech savvy badge. 😦
Great list — thanks for sharing!
Great information! Do you think some of this might be available in Haiti, where I live?
Congratulations on being freshly pressed!
i agree with mikalee…how did all this crap get by me?

Too bad that ubuntu is at the end of the list. It deserves better position.
And yet I own NONE!!! Thanks for sharing, it is an interesting yet obscure list to me, a neophyte in technology. Just give me a simple phone for emergencies and a few phone calls, my laptop for blogging and I’m good to go!

@ Mikalee, Yes, same here. I was thinking to add a graph of how many of the items I own but quickly realized that may be a bit embarrassing for someone who calls him a technology enthusiast. Just too many good choices, not enough time and money 🙂
@ Kathryn, thanks for your comment. Had no idea this of all my posts would be the one that gets freshly pressed. I’m sure some of the items would be available in Haiti and most are online that could get shipped to Haiti as well.
@evie– well, there are a few on the list that you can easily try out– for example, facebook and gmail are on the list which have huge user bases. But, a lot of the other ones are certainly niche that one without a specific interest in them would be hard pressed to have heard of them through mainstream means.
very cool read. congrats on being freshly pressed!

Has anyone here played Plants vs. Zombies on the iPad? Is it truly as enjoyable as with a mouse?

Wowzers, I’ve never heard of most of this stuff! And, sadly, the only thing I’ve used or have or whatever is Facebook (Microsoft Word 2010 came close; I have the 2003 version). 1 out of 100. And I thought I was kinda with technology these days…. LOL.
Android seems to be more popular than ipad from the editor’s view. I am not buying it.
Looking at this list of technological equipment makes my head hurt. Time to strap on the helmet real tight and continue reading to see what new gadgets I am missing.
Blessings,
Ava

Facinating! Obviously I had heard of Kindle and the ipad (even have one!) etc but a lot of those products were new to me. I wonder where we are with all this technology stuff in 10 years….
I can’t say anything more than this….. Excellent.
Great list — thanks for sharing….!

Personally, I’m an Android fan who is currently using 1.6 and is checking out HTC Desire HD (which is a Android 2.2).
Anyone has review on this?
Thanks for sharing, Apurva. By the way, you to me, is a very qualified, 100% Enginomist! 🙂
Likewise, I lost my savvy badge too. However, its food for thought. I notice that the ipad and android are top of the list and that’s no real surprise on the techie battleground. I think its of great interest just to see how the two square up, speaking as a dedicated ex-Palm now i-Phone fan.
Some of my articles might be of interest to you on business tools, mindmapping and information systems.
Kind Regards, Mark

This is NOT the post to look at if you have a seriously technology fetish. Wow…now you’ve just nudged me into a gadget-induced coma. I look forward to checking these out…great post. And, congrats on being FP! Happy Holidays!
@Mark, thanks for your comment…i’ll check out your site as well about the business tools and IT systems as well
@The Enginomist– thanks for your comment- I haven’t tried Android 2.2 yet, so can’t comment. I did check your site out, still not quite sure what an Enginomist is, but I’m happy to be qualified as one 🙂
@sayitwithmusic– in ten years from now, I’m sure we’d look at the list and we’d be saying the same thing– wow, had no idea most of these items existed. The technology gadgets will be always ahead of what most mainstream folks can keep up with
@evil- have only tried Plants v Zombies on the iphone– i’m sure it has similar if not more appeal on the ipad. ipad is one item i’d like to get in 2011
